Spanning 50 kilometers alongside the base of the magnificent rusty-gold Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is a picturesque marvel, praised by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa.”
The Lake Manyara National Park encompasses an area of 330 square kilometers, around 127 square miles, with a significant portion, up to 200 square kilometers (77 square miles), being covered by Lake Manyara when water levels are high. Situated in northern Tanzania, the park’s entrance gate is located approximately 1.5 hours (126 kilometers/80 miles) west of Arusha along a newly surfaced road, in proximity to the ethnically diverse market town of Mto wa Mbu.
The best way to get to Lake Manyara National Park
Access to Lake Manyara National Park is available through various means, including travel by road or charter, as well as scheduled flights departing from Arusha Airport. This convenient access allows travelers to reach Lake Manyara National Park while en-route to Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater.
Best time to visit Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara National Park is an ideal destination to visit during the dry season, which typically spans from July to October, offering excellent opportunities to witness large animals in their natural habitat.
